Here's an article from Beth Alvarado on how she quit heroin called, "How I Quit Heroin And Other Toxic Substances." It's an interesting look inside the mind of an addict, well-written, and offering a lot of hope.
This article gives several family members' accounts of what it was like living with addicts and all the ways that their behaviors became ridiculous to accomodate the behaviors of their addicts. It's also accompanied by a photographic gallery of the women.
I also stumbled upon this Dead Musician Gallery, which reminded me of my own Dead Addict Of The Day project.
This painting was done by a painter named Milovic. It's pretty neat...called Heroin For Your Emotions. This article by freelance writer Laura Lang is about functional heroin addicts. It's kind of strange...she seems to move back and forth between believing that she was a functional addict, in that she was able to work and maintain her bills while using, to agreeing that her life was rather meaningless, sort of as if she were just treading water. The scary part (for me, at least, with my fear of relapses) is when she describes her plans to use in the near future. The article is also accompanied by an image of a heroin-related tattoo.
This is old news, from April, 2006, but it recounts the charming tale of a 76 year old woman who had been making and selling heroin from her home for years.
And here's a site featuring an interview with a professor from the University of Wisconsin who has written a book on the CIA's involvement with the opium trade. Pretty infuriating.
And one more thing...here's a story of drug smuggler using fucking puppies to transport heroin in from Columbia.
Stumble It!
